I am absolutely appalled by my experience on 2/8/25. I placed a catering order for my son’s birthday party of 2 sandwich platters through the catering app specifically for ShopRite. I set the pick up time for 2:15 so that I could pick it up on my way to the party. I went to the deli section and said I had a pick up order and I was told that there was no order for pick up. I was taken aback because I placed the order through the app and it was confirmed. I was told they could make it in about 15 mins. I went to get my ordered cake and came back and was then told by someone else in the deli that it was unrealistic to get the order completed in 15 mins and that it would be about half hour. I said I didn’t have half hour because I had to be at the party by then. I told them again I had to download a specific app to place this order and they told me “the person who used to check that doesn’t work here anymore.” Should someone else have checked it? I told them to just cancel it which they were shocked about. I then Started leaving the store with my cake- which I paid in advance when an associate stopped me and started yelling that I was going through the wrong exit. I was basically out the door with my cart and she grabbed my cart and pushed it back into the store and asked me if I could read the signs that said not an exit. I can read!!! I just wanted to get out of this store before I caused a scene so I just grabbed my cake and left through “the correct entrance.” This was the worst retail experience I’ve ever encountered. The only positive out of this was the bakery department had my cake ready on time. But my interaction with picking up an order that was never completed and then being stopped walking out the store like I was a criminal will probably the reason I will never step foot into this store again. I also will be telling my family friends about this horrific experience so they can avoid doing business with this store.

Front end management needs some re-thinking. You have 15 people in line for self check out, 3 people ringing with lines of 8 people or more. A head cashier standing there watching looking nervous and a manager walking back and forth. It would make much more sense for the manager to stop walking around doing nothing, cover the head cashier and let her ring for 15 minutes or both ring for 10 minutes to burn down the back log. Management needs some rethinking. Cashiers are so stressed by lines, my cashier started ringing my food on top of the previous customer who was bagging and got it all mixed up.

This store has gone so far downhill over the past two or three years.

First, the staff that they hired are completely tuned out, or mean, or dismissive. Especially the afternoon and evening staff. No longer is anyone at this store helpful….Except the workers that are there around 6am-7am. Basically get up early if you want any customer service here.

Forget about trying to return your bottles and cans! About 75% of the time the bottle and can machines are broken or full, and then you have to go inside the store to customer service, ask them to page someone who can come out and fix the machine for you, and some of the time that person doesn’t even know how to fix the machine and they have to go ask someone else

And of course that’s the customer’s fault, not ShopRite’s.

Then last year they got rid of shopping baskets altogether, I had extensive conversations with both security and with customer service about the baskets and the story I kept getting was that customers were stealing them, and they were too expensive to replace.

And of course that’s the customer’s fault, not ShopRite’s.

So they just stopped replacing the baskets and forcing everyone to use carriages. I thought I would just shop with a shopping bag and then take everything out at the cashier, (cause, you know, I’m honest) Then they put up signs saying that’s not allowed.

And of course that’s the customer’s fault, not ShopRite’s.

(It is allowed at the Stop and Shop several blocks away to shop with your reusable bag and take those things out and scan them at the cashier-I even double checked with their management)

And when you fill out those surveys on the ShopRite receipt or call the main number, they are no help either.

Ultimately, I’ve just stopped shopping at this ShopRite because it’s clear that the family that runs it has no interest in improvement. Shopwrong.

I am grateful for the Stop & Shop around the corner, where the management and staff always answer my questions, and they may not have as many shopping baskets as there were before Covid, but at least they still have them! And if you must go to ShopRite, go to the one in Manchester, it’s like night and day compared to this one in East Hartford!

I always go grocery shopping here and I always thought the customer service was great but a couple weeks ago I had a blonde moment. I was putting my groceries in the trunk and totally forgot I had rested my phone and keys on one of my grocery bags, I shut the trunk and as soon as I did I remembered (not my finest moment Lol)

I went inside and asked for help because I couldn’t call anyone or open my car. I went to the customer service desk and they gave me the store phone to use but the phone wouldn’t let me call outward only to produce, floral department etc.

It’s was getting dark and no one who worked there would let me use their personal phone to call the police or even a friend. They said they’d get in trouble. I understand it was my mistake and what I did was careless but at the end of the day if someone needed help like that and all they needed was to borrow my phone for a second to call someone (And mind you it was almost 9pm) I’d let them.

I was so scared of being here all night stuck in the parking lot, that I had no other option but to ask a customer if I could use theirs. I’m so grateful that the first person I asked without hesitation let me use his 🙏🏼🤍

I’m not trying to bash ShopRite but I feel this store is a good example of the disconnection being experienced with bigger chains, we’re all humans and life is hard. We need to help each other out 🕊️

What has happened to the management or is there management? Had a horrible experience at check out last night ! There was no manager to be seen . Employees to busy talking to them selves then to help the customers I was not willing to wait minutes ( which can feel like hours ) . I ended up walking out without the items I wanted . I will go the stop and shop in future where the customer support is…

Waited nearly 30 minutes to be checked out because only two registers were open with no one bagging. Many self check out registers were free but are apparently 20 items or fewer. This is, to be clear, the fault of the managers and not the kind and productive workers.

Got stopped on the way bc the self serve register didn't give me a receipt, had to go back in to see the service person; with security. And she told I was all set.
