Very knowledgeable and good folks at this boatyard. 100 ton travel lift great for all
sized boats — even our 25 foot wide catamaran. Quality work was done on time and at a really fair price. We had bottom work done and it looks like new.

This is one of the last local yards in the area. Felt like family and it was clear they cared. This was our first time with Yard manager John and office manager Donna but it will not be the last.

Easy to find up the Connecticut River. Deep water and simple approach.

If you are buying or selling a boat, there are many options, but Essex Boat Works stands far above others. We recently sold our Grand Banks through EBW. In preparation for the sale, the yard handled the minor issues that were identified in the survey both professionally and at a cost that was fair compared with other yards in the area. Our broker, Bob Jarrett, regularly communicated the status of the sales process and went beyond our expectations in handling every detail of the sale. A true professional. In an era of marina ownership consolidation EBW has the capability to handle every aspect of yacht care, but is small enough that they can provide true one-on-one customer service. John Lewis manages a competent crew of technicians at EBW. I observed this group closely as I lived aboard my boat for at least 2 weeks. These guys were always ready to lend a hand to ensure your vessel was ready for your voyage. They supported each other and seemed happy in performing their jobs whether cleaning the deck or adjusting power cables of a mega yacht. I think this is a reflection of the management and ownership of this facility.
Once you leave the dock at EBW you can count on their continued support. This is firsthand feedback from someone who had questions about their boat weeks later.
Special thanks to JP, our technician, who was the man of 1000 answers. I kept firing one question after another, and JP never faltered even to the extent of crawling down into the engine room to point out certain components. And to Donna, the real person that cheerfully answers the phone. If she can’t answer your questions right away, then she sure will get back with you soon. These folks truly understand who the customer is.
Yes, I can highly recommend EBW. As they all knew, we were taking our boat out of state and were not returning customers yet we treated like VIP’s by everyone.
And finally, if you have the time, make sure you stop by Carlson’s Landing for some great seafood & cocktails. You can’t beat the view of the Connecticut River.

I really appreciate the responsiveness of the EBW’s crew to deal with some electrical problems on our Hatteras. Getting boat repairs in July along the CT shoreline can take weeks at most marinas. It was worth the trip from Stonington to Essex, where the problem was diagnosed and repaired in 2 days. Thanks again.

I can not say enough about how impressed I am with EBW. If you want to be treated as the most important project at the yard with thoughtful followup and attention to detail this is the place to go. John, Steve and the whole crew are top notch.
