Well, if I didn't just have the best day!! Wonderful snowshoeing time, Carol went at my pace, I'm not the fastest on those things.
It was a beautiful day out and she had us go on a great trail. Between our hike and the tour drive, we saw feathered friends, and musk ox, and some kind of white rabbit!! Oh! A Mama moose and her baby calf. Carol is quite knowledgeable and easily shares her stories and the day flew by!
I'm pretty excited I got to see some birds we don't have in my home State.

My 10-year old, a budding ornithologist, and I had a great day birding with Carol. She is an outstanding bird guide and knows the birds and habitats of the 3 roads out of Nome like the back of her hands. She spent extra time with us and showed us quite a few interesting spots that there's no way we could've found ourselves otherwise. I also enjoyed our conversations on the road as well. She obviously loves what she does and cares about the local community and the people living there. She also gave us useful tips for another road we drove ourselves. If you visit Nome, be sure to contact Carol. Highly recommend.

Touring with Roam Nome was fantastic! Carol took us out to Teller, AK, to Pilgrim Hotsprings and past the Safety Roadhouse. We saw musk oxen (one herd of 30+), 4 brown bears, a fox and lots of birds. Carol is very knowledgeable about the natural history and the human history of the area, we learned a lot.

It was late August and some birds were gathering for their flights South. We saw flocks of tundra swans, sandhill cranes, sanderling, dunlin, whimbrel, godwit, eider, pintail, arctic tern, Sabine's gull, arctic loon, Pacific loon, common loon, red throated loon, two golden eagles and a gyrfalcon.

We soaked in Pilgrim Hotsprings, picked cloud berries, blueberries and low bus cranberries, we hiked a bit and we're bathed in the beauty of the Seward Peninsula. Now we are planning a June birding trip with Roam Nome.

Thank you Carol!

We are normally very independent travelers, renting a car and driving around to explore new places and see everything we have an interest in. Because the three roads leading out of Nome are not paved, have no services or cell phone reception, we decided to hire Carol Gales of Roam Nome. We are so glad we did! We spent three wonderful days with Carol. We went to Pilgrim Hot Springs, Teller and Council. I had emailed with Carol and had given her a list of places and things we were interested in seeing and she made sure we got to see absolutely everything on our list and more. She is a fountain of knowledge of the history of the area, animals and especially birds, which we found fascinating! We even saw a moose! This was truly one of our most interesting trips and we really enjoyed spending time with Carol and meeting her husband Jim. I would highly recommend Carol and would definitely use her services again!

Carol is probably the best tour guide I have ever encountered. Her knowledge of the history of Nome is immense. Her ability to create a visual picture of a time long gone is amazing, as well as being able to show us photos from each time period in Nome’s history. Can’t wait to return to learn more.

Carol is a fantastic guide and did an outstanding job with our mixed group of Hawaii Audubon Society members and college students during a week-long trip to Nome. We loved every minute of our Kolea Quest! Carol was easy to work with, responsive, and supportive of our ideas and requests. She came through with our evening activities and connected us with incredible experiences, such as with the Katirvik cultural center. Of course, she is a terrific bird guide, and we saw nearly every species on our target list! Mahalo for a great experience!

I highly recommend utilizing Roam Nome if you are planning a visit to Nome, Alaska. I joined a group birding excursion led by Carol Gales of Roam Nome and her husband Jim. I had a great time. Carol is super knowledgable on the birds of Nome and knowing where to locate them. She communicates well with a friendly style and was able to provide insight and information to a diverse set of people in the group that ranged from novice birder (me) to some lifelong birders who could be considered experts themselves. Roam Nome is a great way to get the most out of your visit to Nome whether it's a birding trip or for the history and beauty of the area.

I highly recommend Carol Gales of Roam Nome. Carol was involved in all stages of planning for our week-long visit from Honolulu to Nome, from itinerary, meeting us with vans at the airport, delivering meals and supplies, taking us to great spots for viewing wildlife, to transporting us back to the airport. We remarked to each other often that our group of 20, ranging from college students to pushing-90's, was like herding cats! Carol was patient and good-natured, and kept us on target. She knows her birds and where to find them. She provided us a treasured adventure that we will cherish for a lifetime.
