DO NOT USE QUALITY FIRST!!!
Heat Pump Issues
We had our heat pump installed by Quality First (QF) back in 2022. The installation process went relatively smoothly though minor details like missing screws on the air handler or the bending of the cover for the filter on the air handler weren't noticed until after the install. They install Goodman heat pumps, which are a middle of the road (read not too fancy, not too basic) heat pump provider. The issue with Goodman is that they will not work with the owner, only the installer. So, if there are warranty issues or you need a new cover for the air filter, they will not work/sell to the owner.
Our heat pump was installed in August and worked great during this latter part of the summer. When it got colder, the heat pump worked but once it started to get to 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, we noticed that the heat pump would stall, make a grinding noise, and would steam. This also resulted in cool air being pushed through the ducts into the home. This was all very concerning as we had never had a heat pump and didn't know what was happening. We contacted QF and they sent someone out (the original installer with 20 years of experience) to check the outside unit where the issue was occurring. They found nothing wrong and the issue wouldn't repeat so nothing was done. It happened again a few days later, we called again, and someone came out, this time replacing a capacitor and checking all of the wires. The issue didn't occur again until the temperature dropped below 40 degrees a week or so later and once again the issue returned, sometimes happening a few times a day.
I am sure most realize now that the heat pump was merely going through its defrost cycle but we didn't know that because we weren't told and were assured by QF and their installer that nothing was wrong. Well, it kept happening and QF (to their credit) replaced the outside unit with a new one and a week later, the issue returned. This time, we were able to capture a video which we shared with QF and the installer, who had returned for the fifth or sixth time. The installer shared the video with Goodman and they instantly told them it was the defrost cycle.
Fast-forward to now and our heat pump air handler stopped working. We had our local HVAC provider come (because we don't trust QF) and check it out and it was determined that some loose wiring shorted out a component. We reached out to QF, were first told to contact someone that never returned our call (suspect we were given an incorrect phone number). Then we were asked to submit a ticket online and that someone would contact us within 72 hours (even though we have no heat and it is the winter). No one has called or emailed us and it has been 7 days, we still have no heat!
Solar Panel Issues
We also had solar panels installed by QF and the issue here is that they turned the system on, even though PG&E explicitly forbids this until approval on their end. QF also didn't file the paperwork for three months, it was an oversight which was fixed but delayed our savings and could have resulted in damage to PG&Es equipment.
We will never use QF again, they claim they are quality first but that is a mirage, they do not care about you, just their image and so called reputation.
