HR manager Phillips has done a great job during the entire interview/hiring process. He made web conference, travel and on boarding much easier for me. He is very professional and considerate. I could not ask for a better start at the company.

I had a job interview with Philip and Daniel recently, unfortunately it involves a lot of travel and that was something that I wasn’t looking for. They were both professional and upfront about the job. Most honest interview I’ve probably ever had. Highly recommend this business. Thank you for the consideration and your time.

In my son's Jr. And Sr. Year in High school he went to an Career Expo. Talk a long time with one of the reps. Both years. They even remembered him a year later. So he made a good impression as a Kid. My son did welding out at the ROC program and found a talent he didn't know he had. Kern steel told him to apply after graduation and he did and they hired him. I dont know if itbwas a temp or what but they did pick him up. From what i seen they worked him 10 to 12 hours and some weeks with no time off. He worked there a whole 6 months when they let him go. He requested serveral times for training but they only used him as a grinder when he has welding potential.
The rep told him that kern steel certifies their welders but i guess not him? I know he was late a few times with no good excuse but he owned it... He didn't try to BS his way out. I know i took him to work a few times and was held up by a train that crosses regularly enrout to the shop. He was tired and over worked as i am sure they all are but he showed up. The proof is in his pay checks. And i would be happy to show anyone in HR.
I was impressed they did hire him as promised but i am not impressed with the trainning we thought he would recive. THE rep made it clear two years in a row (Jr. And Sr. Year expos) that they dont care about other certification... Only kern steels certification. I am not sure what kern steel is doing going to these high school expos trying to recruit kids and they are kids not adults, when they don't want to take the time to mentor and train them.
Kids out of high school are not going to be seasoned. They are "wet be hind the ears". If your not willing to help them become better employees why waste the time recruiting them at these kind of high school events. Again... His pay checks show he was there and trying. I am not defending anything other then what i see. No he was not perfect but he was trying and learning and asked many times for training so he could weld. He is pretty good at it and a hard worker. He has never been in major trouble and still considering the military. He wanted to give the civilian world a try before he decides to sign that line. He knows about deployment as we are a prior military family, so he knows he wont he home and moving again. Kern Steel Lost a good employee. I wish i could recommend kern steel to other parents for their kids who will be graduating soon but i can't. I am very disappointed. I have read your response to others who do not have a good experience with your company and how you say your company prides itself in the cross training of the employees. Well my son was happy to get any training... I can remember he came home and was happy he got to train on a lift or something that moves product from one place to another. He was happy about it because it was something different then grinding for 10 hours. But when it came for him to weld others got picked up... That is fine sometimes that is how it works but when a company doesn't help train an employee who is asking for help... That is never a good thing.

If you want to work with ex tweakers, ex felons & be taken advantage of then this is the place for you. Not only do they pay you dirt cheap but if your a temp they'll cross train you every where and the second you ask for a raise they'll hire your replacement and let you go. Why? Because its an at will company. The work experience of this place was a nightmare. They dont value hard work and experience. This is a multi million dollar company that doesnt care or respect there employees and pay them insulting wages. The management is critically screwed up, theres no structure at all. For future temps looking to work here, my word of advice is DON'T. There are other companies that will pay you what your worth if you get hired on its just a dollar raise anyway. Theres welders hired on making $14 if that. So PLEASE anyone considering applying or working here THINK TWICE.

I was a temp there too a while back and it was a good place to work at until I got real sick. I had surgery and had to take some time off to get better but they told me I could come back when I got better.
