A great local hardware store with exceptionally helpful staff who never seem inconvenienced by even the simplest of questions!

I can’t count the number of times I’ve shopped here, often for some obscure tool, nut or bolt, but also for landscape and garden supplies, a sump pump rental when my basement flooded, paint, wood working supplies, and just about anything else you could imagine.

No, I don’t recall the names of the familiar staff members, but they have often helped me in seconds to find what I needed . . . or more importantly, help me figure out what it was that I actually needed given the project I was working on at the moment. You won’t often get that at a big chain outlet!

They won’t have a big selection of lumber, so don’t expect that, but they will make sure you know about Harts Lumber or other alternatives if your needs are more specific, eg - fencing, etc.

It would be useful to provide accurate hours of operations if you chose to close early for events such as the Litchfield Road Race. Only upon walking up to the doors did other customers and I see the sign in the window stating you were closing at noon instead of 3pm.

EDITED 8-5-23 Please ignore everything I wrote below. I made a mistake and should've called the store instead of ranting in a review. I called the store today. My friend's son works for another Ace and suggested I do that, saying management is usually willing to work out any issues. Roger the owner of the Litchfield store certainly did! I returned the item and walked away with a full refund. My apologies to this review's readers. Ace of Litchfield is a great store and I am once again a loyal customer. Would Home Depot have done this for me? I doubt it!

I feel ripped off. I went in to have propane refilled. The tank was rusty and they couldn't read the date so they said I needed a new one which I bought and they sent me home with the old one to dispose of myself. When I asked a friend to take it to the dump for me, he told me it wasn't even empty. He could tell by the weight and could hear all the liquid inside. The Ace employee had also picked it up in order to look for the date. He had to have known it wasn't empty. Yes, it's my fault for saying "I need my propane refilled" but wouldn't the ethical thing be to tell me there was still a lot in it? Especially since instead of refilling they told me I had to replace the tank and fill that new one, which cost me $80. <

Bought a house nearby and this Ace has helped a not-so-handy new homeowner save thousands via DYI.

Always friendly and knowledgeable, with a good selection of tools and supplies. Plus the rental section can be helpful for things you really don’t need to buy.

Only gripe is I would love if they started open a bit later.

I go here even though I live about 40 minutes away and have closer options available, because the service here is exceptional. I rely heavily on the rental department, pick up various parts for work and home projects, and had my neglected snowblower repaired in time for the coming storm (I brought it in far enough in advance). The service desk people gave me great tips for care of all of my power equipment. Keep up the great work!
