I went to Alaskan Rod's mainly to look at the homemade knives. They sell knives of all kinds but not homemade folding knives. They were all beautiful and well made, but I get in and out of spending moods, so I did buy any. But having a hankering for chocolate, I bought some of their in-house fudge, and it was some of the best fudge I ever had! They had a lot of different items in the store from tchotchkes to home goods but all with a unique flair that's an ode to the Alaskan peninsula. I am not a browser at all, but I found Alaskan Rod's a worthwhile visit that is bona-fide Alaskan. Buy the way, their prices were very reasonable, to the point that I was taken aback by them.

Rod and Rhonda have a terrific gift shop full of work by genuine Alaskan artists! A great variety ranging from paintings to jewelry, to hand crafted pens and knives by various artists. We found a hand crafted Asian kitchen knife by a Japanese craftsman, made to Rods specifications, with a diamond-wood handle by Rod. A beautiful piece that is sharp as a scalpel. It's my fourth knife from Rod. My first one traveled with me around the world and is my field knife that always attracts the attention of my partners overseas. It always stays sharp and is literally bulletproof, even after getting run over by a truck in a parking lot. First rate quality. Stop in or order via their website. The quality and service after the sale make Rod's merchandise a great deal, in my opinion.

If you are looking for souvenirs or art made by Alaskans, this is a must when visiting Haines. Rhonda was so nice and very helpful. Lots of great pieces, especially the knives made by Rod.

My wife and I walked in Alaska Rod's when our ship wasn't able to get into Juneau and we hung a left at Haines in May of 2024. We had the pleasure of meeting Rod & Rhonda and hearing of his days in law enforcement in Fayetteville, Arkansas. His hobby is turning out pens and I found something unique and beautiful that he had turned in birch wood. On hearing of my veteran status (USA, OIF/OEF), he imparted a gift to me - a handsome challenge coin in copper reminding us that "Freedom Isn't Free." Rod & Rhonda are definitely "good people" and we look forward to getting back.

Says it’s closed but it was open after 8:30 for all the cruising people. Lots of local artist works and cute things. Knives for the men.
