I graduated early from high school and took the ferry from Kodiak to take the 6 Pak captain's license. In 1982 the requirements were much different. They totally failed to tell me what I would need before taking the actual test. Had I been told I would have brought the documented sea time from 5 different captain's.
Nor did I have the means and time to go to the Anchorage USCG office to get a Zcard.

So I got a refund and bused to Anchorage until the next crab season.
But I remember the staff was very nice and they had housing. I remember I had already gotten my refund and returned quite drunk unable to find my key. I found it the next morning in my pocket.
Ended up getting a FAA airframe license instead.
Got the 6 Pak license in 95.
And later tutored others for the next several years.

Did the Refrigeration course. I found a permanent position and good money right here in Alaska, the most beautiful place on earth so far. Trust the process.

The admin office is very good. Call, talk to them, tell em about your life. Classes are small and the staff seem to genuinely give a damn.

Cafeteria is A+ for what it is. I guess it helps that there is a culinary academy attached .

Dorm is Clean, Warm, Safe, Quite and Comfortable.

Took the IE course in 2014 it really was worth it I have moved up very quickly in my apprenticeship and with all the physics, Algebra, trig, and pre calc that was covered I see everything in a different way especially when it comes to construction and managing designs. Dan Logan was very supportive and helped me when ever needed even if that meant staying late til 6. Since the program I have not been unemployed for more than a 2 week period

I didnt even get to walk in, I called to ask about there PN program, I am currently a NCMA and they will NOT even acknoledge that for PN program, Instead they want MORE money and make you do there CNA program and then you can do the PN program. They lady on the phone was really RUDE I feel sorry for there NEW tranniee Chris whom was pilot on the phone. But for those of you who are trying to pursue your education in nursing AVTECH is not the way to go if you DO NOT have your CNA License. BS!!! tell you what and a big RIP OFF!! Thanks AVTECH 🙂
