Great preserve. Trails well blazed. GLT trail and GRTA trails adjacent are exceptionally nice. While many take their dogs here they are respectful and pick up after them. Big thanks. 4 White trails run across the preserve allow for adjusting hikes. This preserve is moderately easy: climb some downed trees, cross rocky streams, stay on marked trails to give wildlife a chance to return

Wildlife limited by dogs so occasional birds, deer and squirrels. Not as wet as years past so very beautiful now gets very muddy after significant rainfall.

Beautiful and easy loop. However try and download or have a map with you as there are multiple trails and you will start on the blue trail only to find yourself on the red yellow or white trail. There are no maps at the entrance.
Pictures below were taken in early November

Dogs are allowed on a leash they have poop bags at the entrance and garbage cans so please remember to clean after your dog as some earlier commentators mentioned walking into unpleasant surprises ?
Also check your dogs after for ticks.

Easy walking, trails aren’t particularly well marked but the preserve is a loop, so hard to get lost. There was deer fencing in some places and the difference in the amount of undergrowth in the fenced part, mostly mountain laurel, was stark. Have only done a winter walk, so can’t assess other undergrowth. Pretty streams throughout but not too muddy.

Nice, well marked trails. True hiking, not flat, but not terribly difficult either, and you can make the loop as long as you want to which I appreciate

I love Babcock and used to give it 5 stars but the last two years there have been huge trees felled across the blue trail making it nearly impassable. I'm not sure who is in charge of maintaining the trails. People are also very selfish about letting their dog leave a mess on the trail and Im sick of stepping in it.

The worst hike and nature walk I've ever been out of my life
Despicable experience at Babcock Nature Preserve! 1/5 stars

"AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE! I visited Babcock Nature Preserve expecting a serene and peaceful experience, but what I got was a disaster. The trails were poorly marked, and I got lost for hours. The signage was nonexistent, and the staff seemed completely unbothered by my distress.

The preserve itself was overrun with invasive species, and the wildlife was scarce. I saw more trash than animals. The picnic area was filthy, and the restrooms were straight out of a horror movie.

To top it off, the parking lot was a nightmare, and I got stuck in the mud. The ranger's response? 'Not our problem.'

Unless you enjoy getting lost, trudging through trash, and dealing with apathetic staff, stay far, far away from Babcock Nature Preserve. What a total waste of time and money. 1 star is even too generous."

Overall a good experience- we did a yellow to blue trail loop. The map doesn’t show mileage well- It was a nice 1 hour hike of almost 3 miles. There were a few spots that got narrow, unkempt (afraid of ticks?)and near still pools (Bugs!). We did lose the blue trail at one point where one needs to walk along a stream; but figured it out. We hiked with our dog & found it disturbing that some do not clean up after theirs.
