I called Bright Electric to get an estimate on having 6 recessed lights and a ceiling fan installed in my living room where there was no prior existing electrical. I knew this would be a bit of an annoying job but not overly complicated because the attic space is very accessible and not overly cramped.

The electrician that came out was very courteous, professional, and kind. That’s where the good stuff ends.

He did all of his checks and assessments of the work we wanted and had a quote to us in about 45min. The quote was outrageously priced at $13,000!!!

The company could have just told me they didn’t want the work rather than coming up with some asinine wild number like that. I already had the lights and the fan and I know Romex doesn’t cost that much and the electrician planned to steal power from an outlet so he wasn’t running anything to the electrical box or doing crazy drywall work. He proceeded to tell me this is the “premium” package that ensures they can take their time and use the highest quality parts. This is laughable because 1.) I already had the majority of the equipment 2.) Romex and junction boxes don’t vary that much nor cost that much 3.) I’m paying you, the professional, to do a job…I EXPECT you to take your time and use premium parts/tools. He proceeded to say they have their “Band-Aid” package at the “low” cost of $7,500 which doesn’t offer any kind of guarantee or warranty for their work and they apparently don’t take their time. What a joke!!

I expected to pay for a service for work that I did not want to do myself…I was guessing $3,000 at the most — especially since I had everything but the junction boxes and Romex.

Anyways, I thanked the man for his time, paid the BS service call fee and sent him on his way.

I spent $300 on some basic electrical tools, Romex, and junction boxes that I didn’t have, spent 8hrs over 3 days and did the job myself.

$13,000 is an absolute joke and I’m 100% convinced this was a really ethically poor business practice of a company that clearly didn’t want to do the work but wanted to collect a “service fee”.

I would strongly encourage anyone to avoid this place purely based on their obvious poor morals that drive the company. Unreal to ask $13,000 for work that took a novice 8hrs and $300.

I’ve spoke with many people in the trade since this encounter and they all agree this is shitty business practice and price gouging to the highest degree.

Save yourself some frustration and a $130 service call and go somewhere else.
