We stayed 2 nights in room 1 at this lodge and it was fantastic in every way. The room was large, with 2 queen beds, and spotlessly clean. There was a small kitchenette that had sufficient equipment to prepare and eat meals. In fact we ate all of our meals there the whole time we were there. The shared barbecue was great.||There is a balcony that runs along the front of the 3 rooms. The view from the balcony was simply spectacular. We looked directly onto the Chilcoot River. We chose the time of our visit to maximise our chances of seeing bears (knowing that the bears are wild animals and may or may not be there) and we were very lucky to see a number of bears.||We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we are ever lucky enough to return to Alaska.

We came here to see bears in the river eating salmon and this was the perfect spot. There are three rooms here and they share a long covered patio that has amazing views along the entire way. Perfect view of the fishing weir where the bears fish. Loved sitting out on the patio, listening to the river and enjoying the views. Would love to come back again!

Had a wonderful 2 night stay. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have an incredible view over the river. The bears didn’t disappoint with multiple appearances by 9 different bears accompanied by countless bald eagles. Can’t wait to return.

The view is beautiful but I believe the hotel needs an honest review of the view and the room. In photos it appears as if the lodge is on a cliff above the river but in reality there is a road below the hotel rooms. From the jacuzzi you can actually see the road. Fortunately there is little traffic but it does take away from the sense you are secluded in nature.
The room is adequate with nice embroidered bedspread. However, two cons remain, the floor is simply painted concrete rather than wood or even tiling. All three rooms share a common balcony which also serves as a pathway to the gazebo which houses the jacuzzi and bbq.
In our 10 days in Alaska this was the most expensive place we stayed and far from the best.
I forgot to mention we saw zero bears - it turns out the salmon season is later in the summer and should have been spelled out in the listing. For $100 less per night the room would be more on par with other places we stayed. Maybe charge a premium when bears are actually there but otherwise just simple rooms. Based upon a note on the door to the house, the owners are not routinely there so if you need assistance you will need to call them.

This is one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed! Our room was large and furnished with every amenity we could think of. We spent hours on the large deck watching the fishermen in the river below and especially the non-human fishermen - the bears. This is the only accommodation (and indeed, the only dwelling) that looks right down on the river below and offers the chance to watch the famous fishing bears. We also enjoyed walking to nearby Chilkoot Lake to stretch our legs. I couldn't believe our luck in securing two of the three rooms at Chilkoot Haven while we were in Haines. We traveled for 23 days, and this was by far our favorite, favorite lodging of all. I would go back just to stay at Chilkoot Haven again!

We loved our stay here on the Chilkoot River. The moment you walk into the room, all you can see is that view out the window onto the river. It's mesmerizing. Sitting outside and watching the eagles fly by each morning, walking around the corner to the little bridge where you can see playful harbor seals, or heading a mile up the road to Chilkoot Lake where you can stop and watch the fish jump...it was all so peaceful and beautiful. We enjoyed talking with Sue and learning more about the area. She had also provided small thoughtful touches to the room, like rubber slippers we could wear to the hot tub. We hope to come back sometime in late August or September to see the bears fish in the river. Such a great Alaska experience.

Awesome stay and the views! This place is amazing! We watched bears and eagles from our room. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We prepared most of our meals on the grill outside. We also enjoyed the hot tub. We already booked again for next year.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Chilkoot Haven in late August. It was the last destination of our trip to Alaska, and the best was definitely saved for last!||After reading reviews, I had high expectations, all of which were met. The location was fantastic with views of the river and across to a forested area, and not far down the road in either direction was water. In the one direction was a beautiful lake from which the river flowed and was surrounded by mountains, and in the other was the sound with spectacular snow capped mountains rising up from the water. From the porch of our room we could see eagles resting in trees and flying overhead, and in the evening bears would come down to the river to fish. We had a front row seat to this magnificent wildlife. The room had everything you'd need, and was spacious, clean, charming, and very comfortable. The welcome was very friendly by our hosts, who gave us helpful information. A car is necessary. We absolutely loved it. I can't wait to return in the future, and will definitely stay here again.
