I had a very positive experience contracting with Darryl / Diamond Construction LLC for my 2nd story deck rebuild with Azek PVC. Diamond Construction came highly referred from my concrete contractor, and I can see why. The pricing was right on and seeing the quality of the finished installation, I'm certain I made the right choice going with them. If you're quoting for a new Deck, make sure Diamond Construction is on your short list.

Pricing: I quoted with a total of 6 companies before deciding on Diamond Construction, including two larger companies easily findable on Google, as well as four smaller 1-3 person companies that took quite a bit of digging to find through other websites. I normalized the costs across companies to similar materials grades/foundation styles. The two larger companies were roughly 30-35% more expensive than Diamond Construction. One of the smaller companies found from Azek website was 13% more expensive. The last two smaller companies were pretty close to Diamond Construction, within 5% of each other. So in terms of pricing, assuming you're doing a legitimate deck build with required permits and an insured installer, Diamond Constructions pricing was very competitive.

Quality/Build: Going with a smaller company with lower prices, I was a little worried that the pricing might reflect a lower quality build. However, upon meeting with Darryl to review the build requirements, he instilled confidence. He didn't give any sort of "salesman" type vibes. Just talked straight and explained the different options, what he recommended, while still giving me choices to customize the build to my liking. Seemed like a genuine, honest dude who knew his profession well and wanted to work with me on achieving the best outcome for my deck. The actual build went flawlessly. The pictures I posted below speak for themselves (the trashed landscaping is because I was regrading my entire backyard, not related to deck build). I thoroughly reviewed the finished project and saw nothing out of place or suspicious (no missing screws, no missing joist tape, no awkward gapping, etc). Darryl didn't cut corners or take shortcuts, for example, I saw he had used the 5' frost depth rated diamond piers for the install (in a 4' frost depth zone), likely because he knew I had concerns with all the clay in my yard and would appreciate the little extra heave protection.

Darryl and his other employee were punctual, thorough, and friendly. They kept me apprised of the build status each day. It also came in handy that Darryl had experience working with siding and gutters, as we had to do some retrofitting in areas where the previous deck railing had covered the siding/interfered with gutters. These areas turned out great, my wife couldn't even tell which areas had been replaced by eye without me telling her. He didn't charge me anything extra for that extra material and labor needed for those problem areas either.

I had a new metal railing done for the front steps, as the old wooden one had become unstable. On top of that, my wife and I had black dirt filled into the areas next to our new front porch and along the sides of our new concrete driveway last fall. Highly recommended all the way! * Thanks!
