We purchased our home in Sept 2018. We were so excited to have a new home without any old home issues. Well, surprise! We bought from D.R. Horton. When we were in the build process, we noticed immediately that they didn't measure correctly on the coffered ceiling in the dining room. We notified the sales team, who assured us they would have the builders fix it. Unfortunately we trusted this until we did our first walkthrough and found it hadn't been fixed and had been built around. When we mentioned this to the person doing the walkthrough he said "that's how they all are". Given that we could walk into several similar models, including the model home we replied that that was not the case. He said he'd look into it. Final walkthrough, same thing.
Also, during the build, we saw the workers using a large heavy cutting saw on top of the granite countertop to cut trim in the house. On the next walkthrough we saw that they had actually cut into the granite with the saw, leaving behind several deep grooves. When they fixed it they cracked a different part of the granite near the sink. Their resolution was to "repair" it, which led to a 2nd crack which they refused to fix, because we agreed the original granite was fixed on their sheet, so they didn't have to fix anything additional, though the additional was caused by the "repair".
We had our inspection which found many issues, such as lack of roof flashing, holes in roof tiles, and vents that half vented back into the house vs. outside. When they "fixed" these we decided to have our inspector back out to verify, since we were developing trust issues with D.R. Horton. The inspector found that they moved a vent cover plate without moving the actual pipe connected to it, they just poured tar over the missing chunks of tile (fix would have lasted no time). We then contacted them about all of the above issues, plus the fact that they covered up repairs vs actually doing them. They refused to consider paying for my 2nd inspection which proved they hadnt done what they said they had. The did come back and reshingle the roof almost completely, but still havent fixed anything else I have mentioned 26 months later. All of this was reported prior to closing or within a week of closing. I wish this was where it ended.
On our 11-month inspection, which happened in the 13th month, we noted the above issues, plus door frames leaking water into the house, warped doors, missing mortar outside, siding warping away from the house, roof trim boards warping and cracking, amongst other items. Many of these items are still not addressed. We have submitted dozens of warranties, called the warranty department, sent volumes of unanswered emails, and when they do respond and replace something they dont finish. For example the back door was leaking into the interior drywall. It turned black. They assured us there couldnt be any mold growing in that area (even though it had gone on for months. Their resolution was to paint over the black marks and caulk above the door outside. The root cause was the door frame beam that had warped, which they replaced 10 months later with untreated wood, which has now completely molded because they havent had a painter to come back over to paint and caulk it. Therefore more water is likely coming in due to the gap. We also have a board on the back of the house that hasnt been painted many months after the replacement.
We are not alone in this neighborhood with these problems. A quick drive around will show anyone massive amounts of peeling paint on roof trims as well in a neighborhood that is about 2 years old. Buyer beware!
They never answer emails, when they answer warranties, they say someone will contact us which doesnt happen. We are 26 months in with issues still from pre-closure. Even if you account for COVID work freezes, 20 months... Inexcusable.

I've learned that D.R. Horton homes look good. The visual looks amazing! As a builder, though, the company lacks in some areas as I've sat and read on others' reviews. One area for me is competence. My home was built in 2006, and I'm no builder, but I know that certain things should not be behind walls. First of all, the water heater is on the second floor, and I think that's dumb as hell, but I recently had an issue with my water pressure elevating to an insanely high number (150psi). I had two plumbers come out and search my home high and low for the PRV and couldn't find it. The third plumber (bless this man) said that it had to be here somewhere, and it should be in a little access panel. He said maybe the garage was unfinished and the original owners close it in. The plumber cuts a total of 7 holes in my garage and laundry area and finds nothing. Long story short, the plumber randomly cuts in the closet in my family room and low and behold D.R. Horton has closed in the PRV and shut off valve. Not only that, but the drinks the workers were drinking were left behind the wall as well. I'm so disappointed in DR Horton for this decision to close it behind a wall. This situation could have been really bad had my pipes burst, and it's all because of the builders' competence level. I sure hope this isn't what you do for all your homes.

I've bought (2) DR Horton homes in the early 2000's and the build was good. However, purchasing a new home in Oakhurst Glen (2022) gave me a different aspect.

Nevertheless, they sold me a house that had so many issues that they did not want to repair. I have over 60 pictures of neglected due diligent and poor building.

On the contrary, I would recommend to be aware of the cosmetics, because behind the walls will be significant.

Finally, I won't go into the supervisors that they hired to manage the community. (TRASH) But maybe I will post at another time.

I purchased a home from D. R. Horton in Stonecrest, GA back in November of 2020 and I have nothing but good things to say about the company. My home has held up well so far with no major issues and any minor issues I have had have always been addressed by the superintendent, Mr. Oscar Leyva, in a very timely manner. Mr. Oscar Leyva has been a BIG part of the reason my family and I have been able to enjoy our new home stress and worry free. I would highly recommend D. R. Horton to any of my friends and family because of this man. Thank you D. R. Horton and superintendent Oscar Leyva!!

Homebuyers beware of DR Horton. After signing contract and paying earnest money plus improvements amounting to $10,000., My husband was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer and was in and out of the hospital. We realized it was not a good idea to purchase a new home. Contacted our representative at DR Horton in Lake Arrowhead, Georgia immediately. She told me to calm down and call her back in a week, and then our agent contacted her twice on our behalf. Finally, she agreed to take care of it but DR Horton refunded only $5,000. That’s a huge loss in just three weeks!

This is my second DR Horton home and I will never buy a Horton home from DR Horton again. I came with two pre approvals upon purchasing this home but was lead to DR Horton's old preferred lender not being told that I would not get their incentives. Builder's are using this covid19 thing to their advantage and not realizing that a buyer can go to any builder other than DR Horton to purchase a home. I was not given the 4,000 incentive at closing and was told that if I didn't buy this house someone else will. I can remember in 2017 DR Horton went above and beyond to make their customers happy but not now. If I ever live in another DR Horton home again other than this one that I just purchased believe me u it will not be a new build from DR Horton himself.

Our earnest money was NEVER returned, and each company representative we spoke to just passed us along to voicemail after voicemail. Not one voicemail returned after a year. I can’t wait for this company to be audited. Professional scammers.
