Matt could be great but falls short of his potential in every way. 1. We designed all of the cabinets and ordered an easy, seamless design to facilitate cleaning. We received full inlay cabinets that aren’t perfect so the doors are always a bit off to close. Although they’re beautiful in the pictures, the upper cabinets are too narrow to even stack basic dinner plates inside. This makes organization in the upper cabinets a challenge. 2. His ability to measure leaves much to be desired; the main example here is the width of the kitchen counter. He made it six inches too narrow, and rather than fixing it according to manufacturer specifications, he simply added more counter without the appropriate and required support. The kitchen counters, therefore, need to be completely replaced. Unfortunately, they would have to anyway because he also used segmented pieces of Corian with 12+ visible seams throughout. 3. If they drill extra holes in the cabinets because they do not follow the detailed notes for the hardware, they just leave those holes. (Pro-tip: ask for the left over paint and he’ll give it to you to fix yourself.) 4. Our library is cool because libraries are, but I’m disappointed he didn’t follow the design plans. There were doors for cupboards below that were never made. It won’t work for them to be added after the fact, so we have lots and lots of shelves. 5. Installation is performed by young employees who are I’ll-trained, and the work is not verified by the owner. 6. On top of all of this, he is not honest or realistic of the timeframe for his projects, nor does he have upfront conversations about costs. He charged an exorbitant amount for basic/poor quality work. 7. We had drawers installed without the tracks so they pulled right out - onto my kids. 8. He snuck in the house the day before we closed to take all the lovely photos for his website and left all these aforementioned issues for us to discover. I have communicated all the grievances with the owner and gave him an opportunity to make the necessary changes. They “did the best they could” and it is simply not good enough.

In summary, this contractor over promises and under delivers. He cannot stay on time, or have honest conversations about costs, or measure, or follow directions, and has the majority of work performed by employees who do not have appropriate training. I would not recommend him to anyone, and neither would my friends who had houses built at similar times with similar issues. On a positive note, I do enjoy the hardware that was used for a soft close feature, and the fancy stamp he burns on all the drawers. If these two things are appealing to you then you should hire him, otherwise you will likely have a more pleasant overall experience elsewhere.

I am a local interior designer who has used Matt and his team to professionally make custom cabinetry and finishes for clients on multiple occasions. I enjoyed working with him so much and found his work to be to a caliber high enough that I even hired him to create a custom cabinet for my kitchen at my own house!

Hale Craft Cabinet built all of the cabinets in our new home and I couldn’t be happier! Matt was patient with me as we worked together to find the perfect stain that would show the wood grains beautifully!
I highly recommend this quality cabinet builder.
