Had a real bad experience with Rich today. My contractor called to get some rebar and was quoted a price. I then called to get some more information about the purchase. This is where the issue started. Rich didn’t seem like he wanted to talk, therefore I didn’t have a pleasant conversation with him. I informed him that my contractor was going to call him back to order the requested material.

After this, my contractor finally got a hold of Rich after several attempts to get him on the phone. Rich told my contractor that he was going to send him a e mail to finalize the order. Well, he never got an email. Called again and waited another three hours, which had no luck.

Rich, if that is your name, having a disagreement with one of your customers is not an excuse to ignore the customer.

I ordered from Mid state steel in Bozarh, CT. Great company with excellent customer service. And it was $100 cheaper.

Early morning some dude answered the phone. 1 he didn’t want to work today had a horrible attitude over the phone. 2 I still tried to ask him some questions to see if I could get a better answer from him and no I didn’t. What a horrible customer service here. And damn it’s 8:30 can’t imagine how it goes throughout the day.

I started using Hartford Lumber regularly about a year ago when I was looking for a specific item for a job. Rich (the owner) answered the phone and helped me figure out exactly what i needed and scheduled to have it delivered to the jobsite ahead of when I needed it. Ive worked with just about everyone in the office since then and all have been helpful and knowledgeable. They are willing to go above and beyond for their customers whether its a $500 order or $50,000 order someone is willing to help. Even on the rare occasion that there has been an error, these guys always do their best to make it right. Its a shame that there aren't many businesses like this anymore.

I found Hartford Lumber in my search for a particular product, of which they were the only local vendor. I admittedly was hesitant about traveling into the city to get building materials, but it was a necessity to obtain said product. I found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly, and they have the best prices around on quality lumber and materials, as well as free delivery on many local routes when purchased in quantity. I ordered a list of items for a deck last week, and when they arrived, the driver and I realized that there were a couple of items that hadn't been shipped. The driver apologized and said he'd fix it, but I was willing to wait, as I didn't need them for a couple of days. They went out of their way to make sure I received those items before the end of the day, even after my guys had gone home! I commend their efforts and will certainly be using their services for many more jobs in the future.

This is a large company that offers an excellent value as a result of the volume they sell but has the customer service of a small town mom & pop shop. Truly genuine people to work with. Happy customer here!

Outstanding Customer Service! We visited Hartford Lumber and placed an order for some knotty pine ceiling planks. Something went wrong with the order and it wasn't delivered when expected. However, Hartford Lumber immediately rectified the problem by sourcing the lumber from a different supplier AND gave us a sizeable discount. The re-order was delivered promptly and we were able to keep our project on the original timeline. The sales and support staff were extremely pleasant to work with and truly bent over backward to solve the issue. They handle large orders for large customers but didn't make us feel inferior for having a small order. We will definitely be back for our next project.

I called Hartford Lumber to ask if they had something in stock- they did. Two days later I went there to make my purchase and was told that I should have called first to place my order (due to COVID-19) I said that I HAD called but wasn't told about the order ahead process. They were too busy to make an exception for me, despite their poor communication. I'll bring my business elsewhere.
