I really wanted to leave a positive review because of all the praise this place receives, but unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to the hype. While I gave the atmosphere a 3, everything else deserves zero stars.

We visited the night before Thanksgiving around 10:45 PM. Although it was late, it wasn’t close to closing time—the website indicated they were open until midnight. There were a few people ahead of us, but from the moment we walked in, it felt like we didn’t belong.

The woman adding toppings to the sandwiches gave us dirty looks, which made us uncomfortable, and one of the gentlemen working there looked me up and down as if I owed him something. We were simply trying to enjoy a rare family night together.

To make matters worse, the sandwich itself was disappointing—flavorless and minced in a way that wasn’t enjoyable. The only bright spot was the man on the grill, who was in good spirits and seemed to genuinely care about his work. Thank you to him!

I hope management sees this and takes action to address these issues, as we left feeling stereotyped and unwelcome. I understand that it can be challenging to find good staff, but this team didn’t leave a good impression. Unfortunately, we’ll be taking our business elsewhere.

I was extremely disappointed in the taste of the Philly Cheesesteak. It was meaty tasting with no seasoning taste. I’ve honestly cooked better Cheesesteaks. The atmosphere is pretty cool and it’s nice and clean. I was just hoping for a better experience. It is cash only which is bad business for them. They would make a lot more money with a card. You can ask any business professional that. This isn’t a complaint but they are not dog friendly. We had to eat outside with our dog because we were told to leave.

Classic Philly Steaks without the tourist hype. Great service, read the menu, wait in line like everybody else, be ready to order on your turn. Cash only.
Totally remodeled after the fire and still the same but better.. And with more seating with the addition of the former mosaic works next door. Art while you dine!
Be nice to the staff and grill chiefs, they prepare your food! (This is 🚫 a made-for-TV, rude, profanity laden, tourist place. )

The best cheese steak I've ever had! One sandwich is enormous and can be split into two perfect portions to share. This original location has fast service, clean facilities, and a great environment! A must try in Philly!

The cheese steaks are so good. A 12in sandwich costs $13 and some cents. They have a variety of toppings like onions, peppers, lettuce, and mushrooms, just to name a few. Jim's only takes cash, and they have an ATM machine inside now. Expect to wait in line about 30 mins before you can place your order. The line is always around the building. But it's worth the wait. What I love most about their steaks are they aren't really greasy. This is the only place I get my steaks from when in Philly. There is seating in Jim's, and parking is limited because only side street parking is only available on South Street.

After much research to find the best original cheesesteak in Philly that was not touristy, we landed on Jim's being the best. We were thrilled with the choice, while we did have to wait in line about :30 minutes to order, it was worth it. In due respect, there was an Octoberfest celebration street party going on in front of the restaurant, so it may have been a little busier than normal. There is plenty of seating upstairs. They even made great beer recommendations to have with the sub.
