Before I start the review I will add, most visits to Menards has been without issue, but I also had never dealt with the outdoor loadout system. We had ordered two 20" x 20' culverts and had shipped to the store. We live two hours away and bought a trailer and planned to pick up other needed supplies at the same time. Our goal was to get home before dark as the culverts would stick over the trailer some. We also purchased two rolls of carpet and two rolls of linoleum flooring, 25 cedar fence pickets, and 16 sheets of OSB 4x8 plywood. They told us to pull around and they would help us get everything loaded. We asked for help multiple times, and asked for a fork lift six times. Other people received service, but we never did. I am 55, and my wife and I eventually went and loaded the 16 sheets of OSB, 25 cedar pickets, tried to get help with the carpet and linoleum which was on a cart in the load out area. I eventually went into the store, opened the garage door myself and brought the carpet out and we wrestled it onto our trailer on top of the wood that was loaded. We then asked again for help with a forklift for the culverts and no one ever came. We caught two people on forklifts and they said someone would be by in a few minutes. It is now near dark so my wife and I worked and eventually got the 20ft culverts drug onto the trailer, which was not an easy task. An employee walked by and did not offer help. By the time we got it strapped down it was near dark. The poor girl at the exit that lets you out of the yard said she needed to do a count to make sure their guys got everything loaded we bought. (We know the count is actually for the store) I told her that the "guys" did not load anything, we all had to do it ourselves. I think she gave up on counting with everything on the trailer pickets on the bottom, plywood, then carpet and linoleum and then two big culverts on top. We got back home at 10pm.

I still like Menards and their products and they for sure have better pricing. However they need to work on the loadout system. We tried talking to people in person, calling the load out phone number, talking to the people on forklifts, and it took us a huge amount of time to load ourselves, not counting the splinters I received from the OSB. Next time I will know to buy gloves when inside and maybe I can clock in for a few hours pay for loadout service. LOL.

Large selection of good products
But need serious training on order fulfilment and logistics. Placed special order somehow it cant be shipped to me it must be shipped to store. I am 700 miles away. It goes to store, now I must pay $300 to be shipped to me. I am given tracking # .
ABF shipping which is the worst shipping company in the country. Now tells me it will take over 2 weeks to deliver.
Why would any business make that decision if they cared at all about the customer.

Have never been to a Menards before, however they showed online to have some large specialty dimensional lumber we needed for a project. For reference, A local lumber yard here in Texas failed for 4 weeks to procure this wood. I called up to Kansas and a gentlemen in lumber quickly answered, checked the physical stock and it’s condition, then politely explained how Menards purchase process works. We made the 4 hour drive up to Kansas and found Menards to be a very cool place; lots of different items, the amount of in-stock varieties was great, and the staff where pretty helpful. It is hard to put into words how big and clean this store and the outdoor lumber yard are. I was able to quickly purchase my required lumber, hand select it with assistance from a loader, and get back on the road. The only complaint, we don’t have these in Texas and the Kansas sales tax is off the charts!

Nice place, quick unloading and more than enough space available to swing through.
Overnight parking available on the site.

When asked to share details of my review, I’d like to simply start out by saying “Please, for the love of all things holy, add a zero star option”. The only reason I’m generously giving you a 1 star rating, is because I have to in order to give said review.
I used to love going to Menards. Two of the main reasons being their discount prices and those glorious light fixtures. Like a moth drawn to a flame, I always found myself in awe staring at them. With their soft, soothing angelic glow and vast variety, it was a must see. Every time I lay eyes on them, whether walking by the display window or walking through the door, I would completely forget what I walked in for.
*Cue record scratch*
But unlucky for you, I have NOT forgotten about my last few horrid, wretched and down right execrable experiences I’ve had at the Menards in Garden City, Kansas.
You’re telling me not a single person can pickup the phone that’s been ringing for 10 minutes? Lame. Or how there’s not an option on the call list for order pickup? How about after going through all the department options on the call list, they send you to the front desk just to be downright rude and repulsive. Customer service? Not their forte.
I place an order on their website for some screen doors. Should have been simple enough, correct? Wrong! After receiving multiple emails and text messages, i finally made the 70 mile drive to the store, (disrupting my entire work day and schedule, mind you) only to be told that they could not find the doors I had ordered. How is that possible? You’ve sent me MULTIPLE messages, in many different forms, informing me they had indeed been shipped, delivered and unloaded at the store. But you still can’t physically lay eyes on them? Hmmm. Then when I ask if we can just cancel the doors, you want to charge me a restocking fee? On doors that “aren’t physically in the store”? I’m sorry, this happened a few weeks ago and I’ve yet to see the logic there.
And here we are today. The order was placed IN HOUSE by employees, I received an email and a text message saying “your items have been delivered, give us an hour and you can come pick them up”. Okay, GREAT. LOVE TO SEE IT! Go to call and confirm they are there, nope. They can’t find them. But if they were on the truck, they’d know at 10pm when the truck was down offloading.
As I’m writing this lengthy review, I’m still waiting to hear back on if my $1,000 purchase is on the truck in the back lot, waiting to be offloaded, sitting in the store or just completely lost like my humor and sanity after dealing with the wretched customer service department that can’t seem to answer the gosh darn phone, as if it’s not their sole job and responsibility.
If you were to ask me if I’ll be making future purchases at this less than subpar establishment, the answer is quite simply “No”. I’d rather preform my own botched lobotomy than do business there again because that pain would be considerably less than having to deal with the limescale scum that is Menards.

Tons of stuff. The appliance dept is not all that great. Pet products are way over priced. And there’s no way to see if your items ring up correct at checkout. At least 20 times I’ve checked my receipt and there’s something that is higher than the price marked. Garden center is also over priced and those poor plants are always dried up. Other than that it’s one of my favorite places to buy stuff I don’t need 🙂
