I arrived at mid city steel at ten of five. The main door was locked. The shop door was partially open, and after yelling hello several times a nice young man in a hard hat answered. I had a pickup order for 3 8’ steel tubes that I had already paid for. I asked him if I could just pick them up. He told me that the “office was closed, and he couldn't do anything about it and to come back in the morning.”

I work grave shift and can't come back in the morning. The business’s listed hours are until 5pm. There is no reason that door should have been locked at ten of.

To me, this screams laziness and slipshod work ethic on the part of the office people. If it were my business I would leave it open until 5 after 5 but that's because I'm a professional.

Other than that the staff were very polite and helpful when I made my order. It's too bad that laziness ruined my experience there. My advice is put in cameras and don't let them cash their drawers out until after 5. But what do I know. I've only been a technology consultant for 20 years.

Every time I go here to get some random piece of steel for some wacky project, the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. I asked a specific question on mill scale removal and a very nice young man named Shawn gave me a simple answer with a thorough explanation. Then he smiled, shook my hand and wished me good luck with my project. Could not be happier with this place.

Pricing was a little more than what I was expecting but it was made up by the extremely professional staff and environment. The process was pretty simple and they came out with what I needed in a few minutes. If you call ahead they'll have it waiting for you when you get there. They also will deliver what you need for an extra fee
