Mid-America Contractors built my office 20 years ago and restored the same space after major water damage from a water pipe burst in the suite above. They were quick, reliable, professional, and delivered quality as before. I would highly recommend them for your commercial construction needs.

TL;DR – Quality control issues throughout and the cabinet doors started falling off within three months. They care more about reassuring an unaffiliated contractor than the actual customer.

I HATE leaving negative reviews, especially for small independent companies, so I agonized over whether to leave this review. I concluded, however, that due to the cost and nature of my purchase, it seemed important. And after cabinet doors FELL OFF before both Thanksgiving and Christmas, I was unhappy. For context, the cabinets (without installation) cost nearly as much as my HOUSE 10 years ago and the total kitchen remodel cost far MORE than the house. I hired my own contractor, Chad the Handyman, to install the cabinets as he was handling the rest of the remodel.

I used MAC for all new custom kitchen cabinets. The project was completed, and I started using the kitchen in August 2023. The cabinets took about 8 months to build, which was fine, but we didn't intend to start the demo until all the materials/ cabinets were on site to avoid delays with a demo'd kitchen. The designer from MAC came twice to take measurements, but somehow failed to take into consideration the size of the DOORS and halls they would have to go through to get into the kitchen. MAC did make this right by sending a crew out to get the largest cabinets into the kitchen. By removing doors, turning them on their side and using unique angling and brute strength, they got them into the kitchen. If the crew hadn't been able to get them in the door, they promised to remake them in smaller pieces so they'd fit. They made it right.

But there are clearly quality control issues through this process. Four doors didn't have holes for the hardware. Other doors looked like they had holes, but the hole didn't go all the way through the door. Bump dots were intermittently missing. One of the larger cabinets was installed and then we realized that if you tried to open the drawer more than a quarter of the way all the way, it would hit the oven handle. After calling MAC, they said according to the plans, only THAT PARTICULAR CABINET needed to be installed about 1 inch away from the wall on the blind side. There was absolutely no reason to do that and would have been fun to discover after the countertops and tile were complete.

But my biggest issue was that the doors started falling off by Thanksgiving. One of the upper doors came off, luckily in my hand, the day before Thanksgiving. The hinges came completely out of the screw holes. A photo is provided. I was lucky enough that my contractor was able to come fix it, so I wasn't debuting my beautiful new kitchen to friends and family at Thanksgiving with doors falling off. The screws were too small to hold the door, they had been stripped and the holes for them had been stripped. Chad replaced all the upper door screws with an appropriate size.

Fast forward to Christmas Eve when a bottom door fell off. Once again, Chad came and replaced all the screws on the bottom doors as they were in the same condition as the uppers.

Chad called MAC and the owner assured him he was aware of the quality issues, and they had been corrected in their shop. I, the paying customer using the cabinets, was called by the shop manager who basically said, "it is what it is" and sometimes the holes get stripped taking the doors off/on repeatedly (as if I or Chad had taken the doors off at all). Apparently, it's totally normal for their cabinet doors to fall off within a few months of use.

So all in all, I'm extremely happy with my kitchen. It's beautiful and exactly what I wanted. But that credit goes to Chad the Handyman. MAC may be great at commercial cabinets, but a screw is a screw so I'm skeptical. I could not in good conscience recommend MAC. And as I turn my attention to a complete bathroom remodel where I'll also need custom cabinets, I’m looking for another company because I won’t use this company again.

We recently had a fire at our house, luckily it wasn't a huge fire but what a mess. It was just devastating. Our insurance sent an adjuster out very quickly. I was having nightmares about finding a contractor for the outside of our house and a different contractor for the inside of our house. I really feel lucky to have found MAC, and they took care of all parts the repairs, including everything I knew absolutely nothing about. They kept me in the loop about what was happening the whole time, they were always on time, very professional and thoroughly knowledgeable about all the big and small details. I was expecting all the repairs to take a several months to complete, but it ended up only taking several weeks. They did a fantastic job, seriously!

We have used Mid-America Contractors, Inc. (MAC) several times in our home for remodeling projects as well as adding new built in cabinets. They have never let us down. The quality of their work is second to none. In addition, they are by far the most professional and courteous contracting company out there. In a world where most contractors won’t return calls or show up on time, MAC rise above their competitors in both quality of work and professionalism.

We used Mid-America Contractors to repair our deck and we were very happy with our experience. Our deck was leaning and pulling away from our house and they came and mud-jacked our patio slab making it very close to level again and installed some new deck supports. There was a lot of rain this spring/summer and we had some delays, but I'm sure their team has had a very busy season, so we were understanding! Will definitely reach out to them again when in need for contracting services and would recommend them to anyone.
