To see a real Alaska, it is important to cross the Arctic circle presumably by plane. Otherwise, you might feel that it is just like any other state in the main land. In a real Alaska people are working really hard to survive. Therefore, the best destination to visit would be, in my opinion, the city of Barrow that 5 years ago was renamed as Utqiagvik. It has everything you need to see in order to make a reasonable conclusion about Alaska. You would see the Arctic ocean, Aurora lights, a community that depends on ocean for its survival. You might have a chance to see a polar bear in a wild as well as to taste a whale meat if the capitain of the crew members will invite you in his house during or after a whaling season. Also, If you like this place and would want to help people of this village i would encourage you to get a job here at least temporarily. Educators, Health professionals and Mechanics are always welcomed here.

I have been there for 3 days! The people are very friendly, but it's breaking my heart to see that there already is a lot of damage from Global warming! Lots of permafrost is disappearing

Hard to rate but I like it here. Very unique place. If you have never been to the Alaskan Bush this would be a good place to visit.
