I really really like mom and pops small town stores. I've been buying chicken feed from here for about 1.5 years, never had an issue. I purchased 50lbs of feed about 2-3 weeks ago, stored it in my garage until needed (as I usually do), opened it and it had mold. I called the store let them know the issue and the gentleman basically told me to toss it and buy another bag, I asked if he would credit me at all and he said "they dont credit me, thats why I buy smaller quantity in the hotter weather", so basically no.
I understand small buisness but I also understand customer service. Will I go back? Possibly, reason, I really appreciate small buisness vs big box stores. I also understand smaller profit margins due to not buying bulk as larger box stores do. But customer service or the lack there of definitely can make or break loyalty.

The old 'Higganum Feed' was a dump and the people working the same sort you'd encounter at an inner city auto shop. The place is under new management which clearly takes pride in the appearance of the place and the gentleman behind the counter is friendly and helpful. Give it a try and you'll see for yourself. And no, no interest in the place, couldn't tell you the owners name.

The man who purchased the Higganum Feed Store should have kept the original name. The store had been in business for over 100 years under the same name. I beg to differ about the feed store being a "dump" and that it's employees could be related to those who work at an "inner city auto shop". People enjoyed going to the Higganum Feed Store because it had character and they found it a unique store. It was a place where you felt you were among friends. Since the drug store, the country market and the feed store have changed hands the area is very lacking.
