Zack Schaffer is a great carpenter and craftsmen. He is super easy to communicate with by text, email, and phone. I live in NYC and I needed a custom kitchen cabinet to hold pots and pans, and a few drawers for our silverware, and junk (scissors, tape, rubber bands, etc.). I reached out to Zack, and gave him the sketch he requested. He gave me a quote (which was very reasonable) and he responded with a to-scale diagram. Within a couple months he shipped it to me and I couldn't be happier. I had lots of questions and suggestions all along the way (type of wood, types of edges, finish, handles, type of drawer slides, etc,, and he responded helpfully and patiently to all my requests, even steering me in the right direction when his experience trumped my desires. If you need super talented, super nice custom furniture made of wood, you can't go wrong with Zack. I can honestly say that the cabinet he made is one of the nicest things I own!

Masterpiece. Work-of-art. Timeless. Heirloom. These are the words that most aptly describe Zack Schaffer’s woodworking creations. I commissioned Zack to make a Maloof-style rocking chair as a “new mom” gift for my wife upon the birth of our first child. I was familiar with Zack’s work, and having seen many of his pieces before ordering the rocker I had high expectations for the project. Even with the highest expectations, I was absolutely blown away by the work-of-art that Zack created. The rocker is stunning. The finished piece puts on full display Zack’s impressive talents and craftsmanship. The joinery is strong, tight, and beautiful. The placement of lumber—which individual boards where used in the build and where they were placed—is thoughtful and artful. The finish is flawless. To say my wife was pleased with the chair would be the understatement of the century. Her exact words (and my wife is not one for hyperbole): “This is the best present I have ever received.” Working with Zack throughout the project was beyond pleasant, it was fun. Zack regularly touched base with texts and photos, so I never wondered about the status of the project or when the chair would be completed. I don’t know how we did it, but between the two of us we were able to keep the chair a secret from my wife until the big reveal. Great experience and many thanks to Zack, to whom I’m forever indebted from the amount of brownie points this gift has earned me. -B
