So I was shopping alongside my husband and we came across the frozen dessert isle, My honey was browsing and came across a friendly cake that he noticed was marked on sale.. so I was like well get one, and then once he informed me of the price that the cakes were listed as I told him to grab two, one for the upcoming holidays.. Fast forward we are at the courtesy desk and wanted to make sure that the cakes rang up at the sale price etc The women who worked at the counter informed us that the cakes weren’t ringing up the sale price that we thought so my husband wanted a manager to come and explain.. The guy who identified as Frozen manager “Jay” came forward and informed us that the cakes weren’t the ones that were on sale, it was another cake.. he offered to give us a few dollars off but nothing more. He also suggested that a customer (not us) but someone could have done this.. Interesting.. its 9:30am and he was the person that worked in that department and just out the sale price up, He also mentioned he could take a look at the footage and see exactly whom the person was that did so, We were awaiting on him to do so but he never did, BECAUSE HE KNEW HE WAS THE CORPORATE that did so. Maybe instead of accusing the consumer of swapping prices on a product we knew not to be on-sale but he should have OWNED his mistake. Here’s a picture of the product that we thought was in sale and how this could be misleading.. I didn’t appreciate the fact that he blamed it on a consumer and hustle wasn’t Man enough to admit his mistake. The store manager and other consumers should be aware of this behavior and not tolerate this behavior. But, Jay showed his true character in this case but not the video he suggested getting could go back and take a look at.. Interesting..

If you are ordering for pick up, it constantly states items are out of stock, but when you enter the store, the items are there. Grocery pick up is supposed to be for convenience but I end up having to waste my time going into the store anyways, while still paying the $5 pickup fee.

While the staff was friendly, and the store was clean, the sign for facial recognition was off to the corner, where you couldn’t really see it. I went in looking for the sign and it took me time to find it! The store uses facial recognition at various locations within the store. If this was simply for theft purposes, and internally it would be understandable. Not great, but understandable.

They don’t use just use models to people detect but facial recognition. I saw no signs for where the cameras we’re detecting, but I was only there for a few minutes getting an orange juice.

Think about what you’re doing ShopRite. Are you a grocery store or a communications/data company?

I would like to see a little more transparency by ShopRite, as to how they actually use the data from the facial recognition. The only thing we know is from the news and they said that ShopRite is sharing that data with law-enforcement.

The good:
The store is clean, plenty of friendly staff, there are plenty of options especially for produce, and the prices are much lower than stop and shop across the street.
The bad:
The bakery goods were pretty stale and salty, the boneless chicken thighs I got were full of shattered bones, and the sweet potatoes were pithy.

It is clear that the local folks working here are good but the oversight at a company level are extremely poor. None of those issues should exist.

Just want to give credit where credit is due to this young worker at ShopRite who was manning the self check out area the other night, he is simply spectacular!

I thought he did an excellent job at assisting a customer in distress (she was getting very snarky and mouthy complaining about no one to help her since something was amiss w her coupons and wouldn’t allow her to proceed checking out. So he was multitasking and trying to help me & her, simultaneously) he never lost his cool nor composure.

I wish I knew his name. He has short ish hair but not buzz cut, more like 2 inches on each side above his ears and wears glasses. what really impressed me was his age, since the youth today, it seems, has missed the mark with work ethic. Not all, but just based off the horror stories I’ve been hearing they’re far and few between. He’s definitely one of the most calm cool and collected workers I’ve ever seen and he certainly deserves a raise, if I find out his name I will be sure edit this post.

Way to go young man, you will go very far in life. Thanks again for your help !

Ps~ I love shop rite tricity Plaza very clean store, and bonus their Recycle center is open later than stop & shop too 🙂 that lady that locks it up is very nice too, never rushed me out. But was very kind and helpful.
