This place is awesome they have a wide assortment of gravel. Purchased some gravel for my newly constructed pool. Brought some pictures and found some gravel that would match our pool. Gave them my measurements and purchased enough gravel for my project. Would highly recommend this business.

I only needed a bit of lava rock for a five gallon tank so I brought a little red bucket to fill and they gave it to me pretty much free! they were very nice when I called over the phone about buying small quantities as it was my first time buying here. My fish and shrimp love the lava rock cave!

If you are in search of building materials, look no further than this establishment. The staff here are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. You are sure to be greeted with a warm smile and leave with an even bigger one. If I could give them a 10-star rating, it still wouldn't be enough to express how wonderful these people are. I highly recommend considering this establishment as your first choice before going to Home Depot or other stores. You won't be disappointed.

*Attention Home Owners* you do not need to be a commercial client to shop at the bulk yard! If you're planning on revamping that landscape this year you CAN get your materials here for a fraction of the price compared to Home Depot or Lowe's! Literally, I got 3x the amount of sand for less than half of what I payed at Lowe's! Thankfully I left the stuff from Lowe's in the bags so I can return it tomorrow before I head back to the bulk yard for the rest of the sand I need. Very knowledgeable staff and super nice guys! Special thanks to David for getting me the right materials!

They are nice and honest people. I did a modification on my waterfall, so I went to the bulkyard to get a flat piece of stone, and they gave it to me for free. A week later I needed a bigger piece of stone, so I went in again and insisted to pay, but these wonderful people refused and just gave it to me for free again!

I walked in not knowing what I was doing, but knew I needed dirt. Both the owner David and his son Kyle made it happen today easy breezy. Me, my prius, and buckets of dirt 🙂 I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Thank you for being so helpful and kind!

Went there to check out pellet grills. The owner, David, spent a lot of time explaining the different models and their features. He even did a price match on a Green Mountain Grill unit, and had it delivered the next day.

These folks are terrific, friendly and most helpful. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

I am so disappointed in the two products we purchased from The Bulk Yard. Soon after the Covid-19 shutdown, I was excited to hear that The Bulk Yard was delivering. The woman I spoke to twice of the phone had poor customer service and did not seem informed on the products. We decided to have some "top soil" delivered. The experience went so smoothly that a couple days later we ordered some decomposed granite (DG) as well. The man that I spoke to on the phone was very friendly and knowledgeable.

So, why the 2 star review? Honestly, I wanted to give 1 star but didn't think that was entirely fair since we couldn't go down to the store and inspect for ourselves the products we were buying. Unfortunately, it's completely based on the product quality. Once we started moving the "top soil" to our raised planter beds, we discovered it had very little organic material. It was mostly rocks and sand. When we wet it down, it turned to a clay-like cement and would not drain. We had to buy 10+ bags of organic material from Home Depot to amend it for growing vegetables. I asked many questions about what the top soil was made of, explained my use, and was assured this was the right product. It was not even the quality you get from Home Depot/Lowe's. It would have made beautiful landscaping dirt, but that is entirely different from raised planter beds.

The DG... I explained detail that I needed a product that would be good for a walkway in the garden, wouldn't slip, and wouldn't grow weeds. I inquired about one of The Bulk Yard's dirt products; however, the woman informed me that decomposed granite was the way to go because it wouldn't slip and weeds would not grow in it because it "is decomposed rocks". Well... on all accounts: FAIL. The DG is probably marble sized and smaller. Despite tamping it down, the rocks slip and slide into the grass all the time, even with a weed barrier. My dogs dig it up like sand. It is incredibly painful and sharp to walk on. AND, the crab grass LOVES IT!! We're finding the crab grass grows and travels on the DG like a super highway. I am so beyond disappointed in this product.

We were referred to The Bulk Yard from a local nursery that was closing its doors. I was so excited to find such a resource in Bakersfield, but we won't be buying from here again. I will say that if you can go in person and survey for yourself the product you are purchasing to confirm it will work for your needs, then they might just be the place for you. That's the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one.
